Compared to what?

The BusyB - Week of 5.6.24 🐝

Welcome to your weekly serving of inspiration, focusing on movement, nourishment, and intention. Let's dive in!

Becks’ Brief 💌

It's that time of the week again where we pause, reflect, and prepare for the week ahead. I'm excited to have you here with me in our shared journey of wellness, empowerment, and balance!

Fresh from another Tony Robbins event, I have a wealth of information I cannot wait to share with you all! This particular event was Tony’s staple Life Mastery program and we dove deep into the world of health and wellness. One key mantra from the 5-day program is still buzzing in my ear: “Health is wealth”. This sentiment could not be more true!

Another resonating mantra that I will focus on in this week’s newsletter is, “Compared to what?”. Tony and the other speakers reiterated this often throughout the program specifically in relation to our health journeys. Often, I find myself striving for perfection, believing that if something will not turn out exactly how I initially pictured it, it’s not worth pursuing. I also often forget that in most situations, there are multiple options presented to me. Asking myself, “compared to what?” shifts my perspective towards making the best choice amongst all my options versus the perfect choice.

Consider, for example, opting for non-organic produce when organic isn't available or affordable. Compared to what? Processed foods that are lacking nutrients?

Or, going for a quick walk in the morning because you have an early meeting and can’t get to yoga and make it on time to start work. Compared to what? Skipping movement altogether and heading straight to work?

The point here is clear - we’re almost always presented with options and in most instances the best decision is made when weighing our options against one another. There is almost always a better (not perfect) option - so lean in and ask yourself, compared to what?

The Bulletin 📝

Considering your options can offer insight into what could be the best decision for you at the moment. Let’s explore a few comparisons together to assist you in making the best (not perfect) decision for yourself!

🥱 Waking Up

  • Start the day with clarity and focus through morning meditation.

  • Compared to what? Mindlessly scroll through social media.

🏃🏻‍♀️ On The Go

  • Order a salad with fresh ingredients and a variety of color.

  • Compared to what? Settle for fast food that may upset your stomach.

🍵 Drink Up

  • Choose tea or seltzer when you are craving something other than H20.

  • Compared to what? Down a can of caffeinated and sugary soda.

🍓 Sweet Tooth

  • Opt for a homemade smoothie packed with all kinds of berries.

  • Compared to what? Grab a handful of cookies from the cabinet.

🙆🏻‍♀️ Extra Movement

🍕 Weekend Cravings

  • Cook your own food with healthy ingredients and the right portions.

  • Compared to what? Opt for takeout with veggie oils and big portions.

These examples highlight just a few decisions we encounter in our daily lives, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing our health journeys. They serve as a reminder that it’s typically about making the best decision in a moment and not making the perfect decision.

In a future newsletter, we’ll talk about “zagging”, a concept I also learned during Life Mastery. Rather than framing it as “cheating”, zagging signifies indulging in a balanced manner, enjoying ourselves without guilt. This approach fosters a 80/20 mindset, where we prioritize health most of the time but allow for occasional indulgences that bring happiness (like opting for take out because sometimes its just necessary 😋).

Nourish & Move 🤸🏻‍♀️

🌮 Lately, I’ve preferred cooking a delicious meal rather than going out to eat on weekends. My go-to’s have been:

These meals taste like you’re eating out, but within the comfort of your own home, and with the knowledge of all the ingredients on your plate!

🚶🏻‍♀️In the past when I have gone on trips, I always made it a point to bring workout gear and exercise wherever I went. While I still aim to stay active on all my trips, I am more mindful about which trips provide me with the opportunity for a full workout versus simply getting my steps in by walking throughout the day. Walking is a convenient way to keep moving, particularly when daily access to a gym or other exercise facility isn't available. Remember - compared to what?

The BusyB Booster ✨

Comparison Challenge:

🔁 Before making any decisions this week, consider another option. Weigh those two (or three, four, etc.) options and select the best option for yourself. Consider the direction you want to move toward in your health journey and opt for the choice that brings you one step closer. By embodying the person we aspire to be, we inevitably transform into that very individual.

The Real Deal ✔️

Myth: Perfection is the only path to success.

Busted: It's BS (a common belief system) that unless every decision aligns perfectly with our health goals, we're failing. The truth is that consistency and progress matter far more than perfection. Making small, sustainable choices consistently over time can lead to major improvements in our health, even if occasional indulgences occur. The key is to focus on overall habits rather than fixating on perfection.
